Spring time on the Cycladic Greek Island of Kea:

Kea (Tzia, to the locals) can only be reached by boat from mainland Greece, so remains untouched by international tourism. The island is 130 square kilometres and has only 2,000 residents. Ancient artefacts and archaeological remains suggest civilisation on the island dates back to 2500 BC. The many contrasting landscapes, seascapes and settings you will experience on your Photographic Holiday are a delight to capture in an image. Springtime in Kea means the island is relatively green - awash with colourful blooms, orchards, olive groves and almond trees. Walk or take a boat to reach magical, remote beaches with warm, azure waters and undisturbed sands.

Alive with culture & tradition

Step back in time on your Photography Holiday, into the “Real Greece”, as you marvel at the simple, gentle pace of life which is so endearing to visitors and wonderful to shoot. The local people are warm and friendly and their traditional food is colourful and delicious. Farmers plough the lush valleys on foot with mules, tired but happy fishermen return with their catch at dusk, drinking water is sourced from natural springs and fire is the main form of heating. The architecture boasts traditional Greek character; whitewashed houses, chapels, monasteries and windmills crown the hilltops and ancient roads lead you to splendid historical sites.

Accommodation at Red Tractor Farm

For your Photography Holiday, you will be staying in a lovely en-suite double room in one of 4 new, traditional-style guesthouses on the grounds of the picturesque 8 acre Red Tractor Farm in Korissa - owned by our trusted friends and hoteliers, Marcie and Kostis. The guesthouses have been especially designed to let in as much natural light as possible and are surrounded by gardens and fields, an olive grove and a vineyard – ideal for Photography Holidays, shooting at your leisure and the perfect setting in which to relax and unwind. The beautiful, sandy St George beach is at the end of the driveway and the port town of Korissia is just a 5 minute walk away with shops, bars, cafes and restaurants lining the seafront. This serene environment is truly the Real Greece and staying here will make your Photography Holiday all the more special.

Photography Holiday Itinerary – unique photographic opportunities

Springtime temperature hovers around a pleasantly warm 22 degrees with 12 hours of sunlight every day. The sky is invariably blue with a few white clouds for decoration. Sunrise is around 6.30am and sunset 6.30pm. On the Photography Holiday, we will be shooting for approximately 3 hours each morning; later in the day, we will shoot for another 2 to 3 hours – either in the afternoon or early evening, depending on the setting. The Photography Holiday Classes are inspirational, entertaining and well- structured, tailored to the abilities within the group. You will also have the freedom to practise taught photography techniques at your leisure, with an expert to hand at all times during the sessions. There is plenty of time between classes for you to relax, socialise and explore the island. Although you will be chauffeured to several locations in our vehicle, this Photography Holiday involves walking for about 3 miles a day, so don’t forget your walking boots!

Specific techniques we will be practising throughout the Photographic Holiday
  • How to meter a scene and “see” a good image
  • Shooting into the sun
  • Shooting silhouettes and the use of Neutral Density Graduated filters to control contrast
  • Explore the use of aperture and ISO settings as a way to give us control over the shutter speed
  • Use of slow shutter speeds to give water a silky smooth look and to blur and soften cloud formations
  • Creative use of white balance in order to warm up the image or cool it down
