Cornish Photography Holiday - April 2011

Cornish Gems – Photography Holiday: 22 - 27 April 2011
The Lizard Peninsular

Spring is a beautiful time in Cornwall, during April the coastal scenery on the Lizard Peninsular is stunning. Golden sunrises, small fishing villages full of character and mackerel sunsets make this holiday one not to be missed.

The area is not crowded unlike the summer holiday months. Near deserted beaches are home to many small, boats some of which are still on their winter moorings. Early morning light and light sea mist together with cliffs full of wild flowers make stunning backdrops for our subjects.

The weather can still turn stormy at this time of year. Small fishing villages being battered by the awesome power of the Atlantic Ocean make for some truly dramatic images.

The Lizard is one of Cornwall’s prime locations for photography, with secluded bays, traditional villages and a variety of landscapes. It is often possible to follow the rising sun from East to West as it moves around the peninsula. Small cottages, thatched and whitewashed, cluster around tiny harbours. Colourful fishing boats, pulled up on the beach, bear testimony to the fact that these small communities still depend largely on the sea for their livelihood.

The areas close proximity to Mounts Bay also provides us with another outstanding subject. St Michael's Mount provides some fantastic photography opportunities when the receding tide reveals the stone causeway.
