The waterfalls we will be shooting
Sgwd yr Eira
Picture this: - From the car park, the route follows the River Mellte for part of the way where you may spot Dippers and a Kingfisher. The route then continues along forest tracks until we reach the first waterfall – Sgwd yr Eira. Here we will be able to photograph this impressive waterfall from a number of positions on the left hand bank of the River Hepste. You can (at your own risk) walk under this waterfall, to gain an alternative viewpoint from the opposite side of the river.

Sgwd y Pannwr
Picture this: - After Sgwd yr Eira, it’s a 20 minute walk to the next waterfall – Sgwd y Pannwr on the River Mellte. Here a variety of compositions can be had from the top of the fall, as well at the bottom for those who are prepared to scramble down the bank.

We will stop for Lunch here as it provides some places to sit along with nice views of the river and fall. Please note that you will need to bring a packed lunch and something to drink with you. There is a small hut at the car park that sells stack bars and soft drinks etc.

Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn
Picture this: - From Sgwd y Pannwr it’s a short walk along the river bank to Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn. This waterfall provides plenty of interest and foreground detail to keep us busy for 90 minutes or so. The best viewpoints are to be had from the bank overlooking the fall.

Sgwd Uchaf Clun-Gwyn
Picture this: - From Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn we will retrace our steps and then continue on to the last of the day's waterfalls – Sgwd Uchaf Clun-Gwyn. Here we can capture the waterfall from the vantage point and from the opposite bank after a short walk upstream to cross the footbridge.

We will then make our way back along the River Mellte to the car park at Porth yr Ogof to conclude the day.

This workshop runs for around 7 hours and gives you the opportunity to capture some superb scenery by using a variety of aperture and shutter speed combinations. Please note that this photography tuition day involves a number of steep descents and ascents of the gorge. Toilet facilities are available at the Porth yr Ogof car park. Good waterproof walking boots or wellingtons are recommended as the paths and trails can be muddy in places.

What if the weather’s bad?
We love bad weather -some of the best photos have been taken in situations where there was rain, snow, or wind. Wear a waterproof and join us to experience the amazing shots you can produce when the weather is poor.

Dramatic, storm laden skies can produce excellent images as rays of light burst through the cloud structure intermittently. This in turn lights the landscape in a very diffused and moody way. Rainbows are another good reason why you shouldn't pack your camera away when the weather turns bad. The diffused light will saturate the colours and make your images stand out from the crowd. When it rains outside the moisture and droplets tend to create a shiny surface on most materials which can create beautiful images. The clouds that accompany the rain also diffuse the available sunlight, spreading it equally and removing shadows. Extreme storm photos are one of the only types of photos that can bring fear and wonder to the viewers who have the privilege of seeing them.

Do you need to be fit?
Reasonably. There are car parks next to all locations and the walking on this Photography Workshop is fairly strenuous.
